I am writing today to ask you, my local MP, to commit to 1000 days of support for multiple birth families.

I am [Please explain who you are here (ie parent of twins ect) and add something personal from your experience regarding the challenges of multiples, whether you are a parent, grandparent, friend, nurse, carer, educator ect.]

A nationwide survey of more than 1,200 parents of multiples (twins, triplets, or more) has revealed that an alarming 70% are experiencing significant financial hardship in the first 2 years after giving birth to multiples. Moreover, over 87% of parents of multiples reported experiencing extreme exhaustion, and 70% said they faced mental health and well-being challenges in the first 2 years.

The findings highlight the unique and often overlooked challenges faced by parents of
multiples.

This election, the Australian Multiple Birth Association is calling on the Federal Government to:

● Fund a '1000 Days of Support' program at $350 per family, delivering essential peer
support, educational resources and practical assistance to multiple birth families

● Reform the Paid Parental Leave Act to provide leave per baby rather than per birth,
bringing Australia in line with international standards

● Implement funded domestic support providing 240 hours of in-home help for twin families and 1560 hours for triplet families, recognising that it takes an average of 28 hours per day to care for triplets.

You can make a massive difference to the lives of multiple birth families and their families, friends and supporters. Please consider making a commitment to provide 1000 days of support to multiple birth families and sending a letter of support to the Minister for the Australian Multiple Birth Association's recommendations.
